Fashion Week is a series of fashion events that showcase the latest collections of designers and brands. These events occurs in two times in a year in the fashion capital of the world. With these events designers get a platform to showcase their new creation to the public, media, buyers, and influencers. The most prominent Fashion Weeks are held in cities like New York, London, Milan, and Paris.
Before the formalization of Fashion Week, fashion presentations were held by individual designers for private clients. The idea of a centralized event where multiple designers could showcase their collections to a broader audience began to take shape in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The 1920s and 1930s saw the formalization of fashion shows, Designers began to understand the importance of presenting their creations in a theatrical and visually compelling manner. The first Fashion Week, as we recognize it today, can be traced back to New York in 1943. Organized by fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert, “Press Week” aimed to redirect attention from Paris to American designers during wartime.
Over time, Fashion Weeks expanded to include not only women’s ready-to-wear collections but also men’s fashion and resort wear. This diversification broadened the scope of Fashion Weeks and attracted a more diverse audience.
