Before the formalization of Fashion Week, fashion presentations were held by individual designers for private clients. The idea of a centralized event where multiple designers could showcase their collections to a broader audience began to take shape in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The 1920s and 1930s saw the formalization of fashion shows, Designers began to understand the importance of presenting their creations in a theatrical and visually compelling manner. The first Fashion Week, as we recognize it today, can be traced back to New York in 1943. Organized by fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert, “Press Week” aimed to redirect attention from Paris to American designers during wartime.
